Optical and space technologies developer ARKA has invested $85 million in expanding its Danbury, Connecticut, facility by 14,000 square feet. The Department of State has approved a potential $90 million foreign military sale of AIM-9X Sidewinder missiles and related equipment to Italy. The FMS covers three requests from the Italian government for a total of 66 Block II+ Sidewinder missile variants and seven tactical guidance units, plus 24 AIM-9X Captive Air Training Missiles and four accompanying guidance units, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Friday.

The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract has a five-year base period with three option years and covers software licensing support across the Department of Defense for Spider Impact, a performance management software built by Spider Strategies.

Leonardo DRS is investing $120 million in the construction of a new manufacturing facility in Charleston, South Carolina, for the production of electric propulsion components for the U.S. Navy. The new facility will include over 140,000 square feet of space to manufacture, integrate and test large components.
