Geospatial company Satellogic has received a remote sensing license from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, resulting in the company becoming subject to oversight by the agency. Satellogic said Tuesday that it had applied for the license for its Aleph-1 Constellation, with the aim of expanding support for customers with NOAA-related requirements. An interagency review of Satellogic's constellation subsequently took place, resulting in the award of the license.

Satellogic has been named to several space-focused organizations in support of the company's effort to promote geospatial intelligence standards and applications in government and national security efforts. The company said Thursday it will work with the U.S. Geospatial Intelligence Foundation and the Intelligence and National Security Alliance to bolster the use of GEOINT in defense and intelligence areas.

SpaceX has agreed to become Satellogic’s preferred provider of rideshare launch services in support of the latter's plan to develop its Earth Observation Constellation by 2022. Under a new partnership between the two companies, Satellogic said Tuesday its Earth observation satellites will launch on SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket, with the first mission scheduled for June this year.
