The U.S. Air Force has conducted a static fire test of the stage-3 solid rocket motor of the ground-based intercontinental ballistic missile system being developed by Northrop Grumman as a replacement for the Minuteman III ICBM. The test was conducted at the Arnold Engineering and Development Complex at Arnold Air Force Base in Tennessee and validated the design and performance of the LGM-35A Sentinel's propulsion system, the Air Force Materiel Command said Saturday.

Northrop Grumman has secured a five-year contract from the U.S. Army to produce the initial batches of next-generation digital radar warning receivers designed to protect military assets from advanced airborne threats. The AN/APR-39E(V)2 is an open-architecture technology that uses a smart antenna and advanced processing to detect radio frequency threats over a broad range of spectrum, including the millimeter-wave band of frequencies, Northop said Monday.

Viasat has secured a four-year contract from Northrop Grumman to provide a company-built satellite system in support of a U.S. Air Force initiative that seeks to connect commercial space internet services for military users. As part of the deal, Viasat said Thursday it will supply its ViaSat-3 Satellite Communications Network to facilitate high-bandwidth satellite internet connectivity on existing aircraft or ground vehicles for the Defense Experimentation Using Commercial Space Internet Call 003 program.

Northrop Grumman has completed the first booster obsolescence and life extension motor segment for NASA's Space Launch System solid rocket booster ahead of its demonstration test set for late 2024. The company said Monday the BOLE adds nearly five metric tons of payload capacity to the next SLS configuration, Block 2, compared to the SLS Block 1B configuration scheduled to fly on Artemis IV.

Northrop Grumman has completed multiple tests, including shroud fly-off and missile modal tests, for the Sentinel intercontinental ballistic missile as part of the program's engineering, manufacturing and development phase. The company said Tuesday it collaborated with an industry partner to conduct the shroud fly-off test of a Sentinel ICBM at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, where the missile's shroud flew off but did not strike the enclosed payload.

The U.S. Air Force intends to integrate the Large Aperture variant of Northrop Grumman's LITENING targeting pod onto its inventory of aircraft. Northrop said Tuesday that LITENING is an electro-optical/infrared targeting pod that works to detect, acquire, identify and track targets at extended ranges and that the LA variant offers new video and IR sensors and software that enable faster video processing and imaging at greater distances.

Northrop Grumman has received a $28.9 million contract to help the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency develop tactical autonomy capabilities for multi-ship, beyond visual range defensive and offensive air combat missions. A notice posted on SAM.gov states that Northrop will build an AI air combat capability that could work with existing sensors, electronic warfare and weapons within dynamic and operationally representative environments.

Northrop Grumman and the Missile Defense Agency completed a preliminary design review of the Next Generation Interceptor capability one year ahead of schedule. As part of PDR, the Northrop NGI team provided MDA with a full-scale solid rocket motor, avionics, test hardware and other on-site interactive demonstrators for assessment as well as a digital model of the all-up round design in a virtual reality environment, the company said Wednesday.

Northrop Grumman, AT&T and SEMPRE have collaborated to demonstrate the capability of a digital platform to facilitate the sharing of classified military data between aircraft maintainers and subject matter experts to perform flightline maintenance and sustainment operations. The digital platform, dubbed Flightline of the Future, uses commercial augmented reality headsets combined with private and commercial 5G networks to enable maintainers to securely access information and accelerate repairs and upgrades of assets on the flightline, according to a joint release published Tuesday.
