Maxar Technologies has delivered hardware to NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California that will serve as a main component of the Psyche asteroid exploration spacecraft, which the agency expects to launch in August next year. JPL received the Maxar-built solar electric propulsion chassis for the agency's mission to study the metallic asteroid that can be found in a region between Mars and Jupiter, the company said Monday.
MoreMaxar Technologies and Natick, Massachusetts-based space propulsion technology maker Busek have concluded hot fire tests for a solar electric propulsion component for NASA’s planned lunar Gateway. Busek said Wednesday the fire test validates all parts of the Power and Propulsion Element's SEP subsystem that will help handle the Gateway’s maneuvering, communications and attitude control functions in lunar orbit to support missions like the Artemis program.
