Maxar Technologies announced on Friday that Carolyn Pittman, a former executive of Northrop Grumman and Huntington Ingalls Industries' Newport News Shipbuilding division, has been appointed senior vice president and chief accounting officer for Maxar. Her appointment is effective Aug. 7.

Maxar Technologies announced on Friday that the company has started production on a Legion class satellite for Ovzon, a company dedicated to meeting the demand for increased mobile broadband connectivity in underserved regions.

Maxar Technologies has delivered satellite imagery data to NASA’s Earth Science Division for use in a variety of research programs that aim to address climate change.

Maxar Technologies will test its Geospatial Cloud Analytics Hub under a potential $4.3M follow-on contract with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. The company said Wednesday the GCA Hub is an unclassified platform designed to help military users generate insights about the planet using machine learning and make decisions on various initiatives such as predicting food shortages.

Maxar Technologies has seen growth in the number of customers subscribing to its line of cloud-based geospatial data products. The line includes EarthWatch, SecureWatch, GBDX and Spatial on Demand, the company said Thursday.

New management and a rebranding initiative are two signs of change for Maxar in 2019, but the company’s focus on growth and delivering innovative technology remains the same. Radiant Solutions, SSL and DigitalGlobe were consolidated into Maxar. The company is focused on two strategic market segments, earth intelligence and space solutions.

Dan Jablonsky, president and CEO of Maxar Technologies, wrote in a blog post published Tuesday the company merged the operations of Radiant Solutions, SSL and DigitalGlobe as part of a restructuring effort aimed to provide leaders with direct authority and facilitate innovation and service delivery.

Maxar Technologies has agreed to integrate its NaturalVue 2.0 global image mosaic and National Urban Change Indicator with Esri’s collection of maps dubbed ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World on the cloud-based ArcGIS Online geospatial platform. Tony Frazier, executive vice president of global field operations at Maxar, said in a statement published Thursday the addition of NICU and NaturalVue 2.0 to the ArcGIS Online platform provides geographic information system professionals the ability to address global geospatial problems.

A senior official at Amazon Web Services has said the company is working with industry partners to promote and expand the services of the new AWS Ground Station that gives customers the ability to download and process data from multiple satellites and during weather disturbances, Via Satellite reported.

Scott Soenen, a 15-year veteran in geospatial intelligence, joined the aerospace company as VP of product engineering, Capella said Thursday.
 

Maxar Technologies’ SSL subsidiary has received a contract from Environmental Defense Fund to design and define requirements for a small satellite designed to detect and monitor methane emissions from oil and gas facilities worldwide. MethaneSAT is a small form-factor satellite that will work to provide high-resolution images to help detect and measure low- and high-emission sources in regions that constitute more than 80 percent of global production of oil and gas per week, Maxar said Thursday.
