NASA and Maxar Technologies have reviewed programmatic and technical requirements for the power and propulsion element of the agency's planned Gateway base on the moon.

Tony Frazier, executive vice president of global field operations at Maxar Technologies and a four-time Wash100 awardee, said the company uses commercial technology advancements to help the U.S. government manage national security operations and address various threats from near peer competitors, the ongoing global health crisis and extreme weather events.

Tim Cole, program manager for the power and propulsion element at Maxar Technologies, said in an interview published Monday that the company wrapped up the two-day systems requirements review of the PPE at its Palo Alto, Calif.-based facility to assess and document the platform’s technical requirements.

Dynetics and Maxar Technologies will collaborate to build a platform intended to support maneuvering, communications, attitude control and initial docking functions of NASA’s planned lunar gateway.

A source selection statement issued by NASA Thursday shows that price and contract terms were the factors that helped Maxar Technologies win a  $375M contract to build and demonstrate a power and propulsion element for the agency’s proposed lunar Gateway space station, SpaceNews reported Friday.

New management and a rebranding initiative are two signs of change for Maxar in 2019, but the company’s focus on growth and delivering innovative technology remains the same. Radiant Solutions, SSL and DigitalGlobe were consolidated into Maxar. The company is focused on two strategic market segments, earth intelligence and space solutions.
