Professional services firm cBEYONData has received a five-year contract from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to develop and field a software-as-a-service platform in support of EEOC’s event management system. The State Department is warning U.S. citizens traveling anywhere in the world "to exercise increased caution". In an Oct. 23 travel advisory, the department called for vigilance on the part of U.S. citizens when visiting locations frequented by tourists and recommended that they enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program.

Air Force Global Strike Command innovation hub STRIKEWERX has selected 26 entities to aid the AFGSC Office of the Chief Scientist’s effort to research and develop technologies to defend mobile transport systems against swarming autonomous small unmanned aircraft systems. The finalists from 75 submissions for the Continental U.S. Mobile C-sUAS Swarm Defeat Challenge will have to pitch their solutions for countering small drones via a virtual showcase in November, STRIKEWERX said Thursday.

A team of researchers at IBM Research's laboratory in Almaden, California, has developed a brain-inspired chip, called NorthPole, that could pave the way for the development of more energy-efficient and faster artificial intelligence hardware systems. Dharmendra Modha and his colleagues from IBM Research used a 12-nanometer node processing technology to develop the chip prototype, which has 22 billion transistors and 256 cores with the capability to carry out 2,048 operations for each core per cycle at 8-bit precision, according to an IBM Research blog post published Friday.

Scientific Systems was added to a Science Applications International Corp.-led team responsible for creating a cloud-based application factory the Space Development Agency plans to use to support its low-Earth orbit satellite constellation. Aside from development work, the team will also deploy and maintain the Battle Management Command, Control and Communications Application Factory and Secure Interoperability Layer in support of the SDA's Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture.
