Lockheed Martin has tested an electronic warfare system designed to equip the U.S. Navy's helicopter fleet with electronic surveillance and attack capabilities against anti-ship missile threats. The Advanced Off-Board Electronic Warfare system demonstrated its ability to perform engagement testing and detect and destroy threats while installed aboard an MH-60R helicopter, Lockheed said Tuesday.

Ball Aerospace will manage a concept study for the NASA Explorers Program to understand the magnetism of the sun and how it affects space, Earth and other planets. The company said Tuesday the Chromospheric Magnetism Explorer mission concept would use a near ultraviolet spectropolarimeter to make novel observations of the solar magnetic field in the chromosphere to learn how magnetic energy buildup leads to solar flares and coronal mass ejections.

DZYNE Technologies has secured a seven-year, $49 million contract through the Small Business Innovation Research program to conduct research and development on advanced unmanned aerial systems for the U.S. Air Force. R&D efforts will include improving flight performance, sensor capabilities and flight endurance of long endurance UAS, the Department of Defense said Tuesday.

CACI has booked a $420 million contract to provide engineering services for two U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command components. Responsibilities under the five-year, single-award task order include mechanical, electrical and modeling and simulation engineering support, CACI announced from its Reston, Virginia headquarters on Tuesday.

A Boeing-led industry team and the Missile Defense Agency have demonstrated the ability of the Ground-Based Midcourse Defense system to intercept an intermediate-range ballistic missile target. During the test, a three-stage GMD interceptor was launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California, which deployed an RTX-built Exoatmospheric Kill Vehicle to intercept a threat-representative ballistic missile target air-launched from the Board Ocean Area, Boeing said Monday.
