General Dynamics' mission systems business has installed a naval strike missile on an Independence-class littoral combat ship to augment the vessel's defensive capabilities and mission readiness.
Fincantieri has fortified its FREMM frigate design with the addition of hundreds of tons of steel in order to meet the U.S. Navy’s requirements for the FFG(X) guided-missile frigate development program, Defense News reported Friday.

Competition for the FFG(X) frigate program is slated to commence in the summer of 2019 once the service completes a series of design assessments with top five proposers.
Austal USA is coordinating with the U.S. Navy on potential maintenance and lifecycle management services for the military branch’s littoral combat ships, USNI News reported Monday.
