Rocket Lab on Monday launched into orbit six spacecraft for its government and commercial clients as part of the 19th mission of its Electron rocket. The Electron rocket for the They Go Up So Fast mission lifted off from a launch complex in New Zealand to field the six customer payloads, including a technology demonstrator for the U.S. Army's Space and Missile Defense Command and a CubeSat for Care Weather Technologies.

Maxar’s Jim McClelland: Tech Advances Fuel Smallsat Industry's Transformation

Jim McClelland, vice president of mission architecture at Maxar Technologies, said the small satellite industry is now more willing to take some risks, launch and learn from those launches driven by technological advances in smallsats, SpaceNews reported Wednesday. “It's been a very exciting transformation of the industry,“ he said. “I have to actually, oddly enough, give a lot of credit to the cubesat guys."

Rocket Lab Gets FAA Clearance to Launch Gov’t Smallsat Missions

The Federal Aviation Administration has given Rocket Lab permission to launch small satellites for government customers from a company-operated facility at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport on Wallops Island, Virginia. Rocket Lab said Tuesday it can use the Electron rocket to perform multiple smallsat missions  from  Launch Complex 2 with the FAA-issued operator license with five-year validity.
