FAA Releases Cybersecurity Operations Support RFI

The Federal Aviation Administration is seeking information on industry capabilities to help inform its strategy for the procurement of cybersecurity operations support services. FAA plans to compete a five-year, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for such services in support of its security operations center that helps monitor information security incidents and protect the information technology infrastructure of the FAA and the Department of Transportation.

Zscaler Report Finds 260% Rise in Attacks via Encrypted Channels; Deepen Desai Quoted

A new report from Zscaler has found a 260 percent increase in encryption-based threats during the first nine months of 2020. Zscaler's threat research team analyzed 6.6B encrypted threats delivered through Secure Sockets Layer channels between January and September and found that health care was the most targeted industry during the COVID-19 pandemic, followed by finance and insurance, manufacturing, government and services sectors.

Frank Duff on Mitre’s Assessment of 21 Cyber Platforms Against ‘APT29’ Threat Group

Frank Duff, principal cyber operations engineer at Mitre, told Federal News Network in an interview published Friday about the nonprofit corporation's evaluation of cybersecurity offerings from 21 vendors against cyber threat group APT29. Mitre assessed the cyber platforms using its ATT&CK knowledge base to emulate the techniques used by APT29, which is believed to be related to the Russian government and involved in the Democratic National Committee compromise.
