Fluor Plans to Support NuScale Reactor Project Through Potential $1.35B DOE Funding Vehicle

The Department of Energy has cleared a funding vehicle worth potentially $1.355B for a public power consortium-led project that includes construction of a small modular reactor plant by NuScale Power, which Fluor holds a majority stake in. Fluor said Monday it plans to support Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems and NuScale in establishing a clean-energy SMR system through UAMPS' Carbon Free Power Project.

Schneider Electric Agrees to Provide Equipment for DOE Cyber Assessment Program

The Department of Energy has selected Schneider Electric to contribute equipment for a program that seeks to assess the cybersecurity of industrial control systems. DOE said Wednesday its Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security and Emergency Response will use hardware and software from the company under the Cyber Testing for Resilient Industrial Control System program, with full-scale assessments slated to commence in the second quarter of the government's 2021 fiscal year.

Constellis Reports Key Contract Wins; Tim Reardon Quoted

Constellis has won several contracts since its restructuring in late March. Key contract wins include a $198M task order to provide security operations support for the Department of Defense at Camp Buehring and Camp Arifjan in Kuwait; $75M contract for security, counterterrorism, fire protection and mail room services at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Missouri; and a $33M contract with the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Protective Service for work at the St. Elizabeths campus in Washington, D.C.

AWS’ Dave Levy on Early Learnings From COVID-19 HPC Consortium

Dave Levy, vice president of federal business at Amazon Web Services and a 2020 Wash100 Award recipient, said there are three early lessons from the COVID-19 High Performance Computing Consortium and one is the capability of new technology platforms to help researchers expedite their work. "Tools including deep learning and artificial intelligence are reducing time to insight for researchers around the world," Levy wrote in a blog post published Thursday.
