The Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard has deployed a Northrop Grumman-built advanced targeting pod capable of providing F-16 aircraft pilots with full-color digital video for situational awareness and targeting accuracy. The company said Tuesday the Litening pod features a modular design that allows users to update the pod into the new full-color configuration.

Johns Hopkins University’s Applied Physics Laboratory has conducted a simulated dogfighting exercise with F-16 fighter jets as part of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's Air Combat Evolution program. Johns Hopkins APL said Thursday that the exercise took place in February and serves as a follow-up to DARPA’s AlphaDogfight Trials which saw one-versus-one simulated fights between F-16s.

Walt Lindsley to Serve as Director, GM at Lockheed South Carolina Site

Walt Lindsley, director of modifications, upgrades and overhaul for sustainment operations at Lockheed Martin, has been appointed to lead the company's Greenville, South Carolina site as director and general manager. The 36-year U.S. Air Force veteran will succeed Mike Fox and oversee the site's operations, including nose-to-tail aircraft sustainment, update and modification activities, the company said Wednesday.

Collins Aerospace to Provide Gearbox Repair Materiel for USAF F-16, B-2 Aircraft

Collins Aerospace, part of Raytheon Technologies, has secured a decade-long, $34 million contract for resources that would help the Defense Logistics Agency repair gearboxes of the U.S. Air Force's F-16 and B-2 aircraft. The contractor said Wednesday it will perform supply chain management and manufacturing services for the gearboxes, which allow an aircraft's transmission system to shift rotational speeds.

Lockheed Gets $64M USAF Contract to Update F-16 Software for Foreign Countries

Lockheed Martin has received a $64.3 million contract from the U.S. Air Force to update F-16 mission planning software used by foreign military sales customers. The company will develop, integrate, test and deliver software updates for the F-16 aircraft's Mission Planning System Unique Planning Component/Mission Planning Environment, the Department of Defense said Friday.
