General Electric’s technology development arm will use 5G-enabled technologies to develop “smart warehouses” at two military installations that support the deployment of supplies and other resources for critical missions worldwide. GE Research's two projects worth $36 million combined are part of the Department of Defense’s $600 million 5G experimentation initiative announced in October and will take place at the Naval Base in San Diego and Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, Georgia.

The Pine Island Capital Partners portfolio company said Tuesday that Weggeman most recently served as president of chemical detection technology manufacturer Block Engineering and he will officially assume his new role on April 5.

General Electric's technological development arm is working on a new cybersecurity tool under the Defense Advanced Research Agency's Cyber Assured Systems Engineering program, Nextgov reported Wednesday. A team at GE Research is developing the Verification Evidence and Resilient Design in Anticipation of Cybersecurity Threats platform designed to assess cyber threats facing critical industrial and military systems, recommend ways to address identified vulnerabilities and predict cyber attacks.
