BAE-Leonardo Team Secures $420M Contract to Build UK’s Combat Aircraft Radar System


BAE Systems and Leonardo have been awarded a potential $420M contract to develop the Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA), the European Common Radar System Mark 2 (ECRS Mk2) for the Royal Air Force's (RAF) Eurofighter Typhoons, BAE said Thursday. Under the contract, the two companies will work to develop a standard radar to be integrated on to RAF Typhoons.

Leonardo has conducted flight tests for a single-engine helicopter in a move to attain certification from the Federal Aviation Administration, Rotor and Wing International reported Tuesday. The company is pitching its TH-119 helicopter to the U.S. Navy as a training rotorcraft, and requires an instrument flight rules certification that verifies an aircraft's ability to traverse through austere weather conditions.

Boeing has awarded FLIR Systems a $40M initial contract to provide an electro-optical/infrared surveillance sensor technology to the U.S. Air Force‘s UH-1N helicopter replacement program.
