SDA Seeks Industry Feedback on Optical Communications Terminals for Tranche 1 Transport Layer

The Space Development Agency has issued a request for information on potential vendors that could design and build optical communications terminals for the first tranche of the National Defense Space Architecture’s transport layer. The latest RFI came a week after SDA sought industry feedback on the design and development of space vehicles for NDSA’s Tranche 1 Transport Layer, which will deliver initial warfighting capability to service personnel via persistent regional access to low-latency data transport services.

SDA Seeks Info on Space Vehicles for Tranche 1 Transport Layer

The Space Development Agency has released a request for information on potential industry sources that could design and develop space vehicles for the first tranche of the National Defense Space Architecture’s transport layer. SDA wants the Tranche 1 Transport Layer to support multiple warfighter missions by delivering regional persistence capabilities in support of the Combined Joint All Domain Command and Control by facilitating sensor-to-shooter connectivity, low-latency data transport and direct-to-weapon connectivity.

SDA Eyes August Release of Satellite Procurement Details; Derek Tournear Quoted

The Space Development Agency plans to release a solicitation in August to buy 150 satellites and expects those spacecraft to be in orbit by 2024 to support the development of a multilayered system designed to improve surveillance and transmit data to weapons and ground systems, Federal News Network reported Tuesday. “What our architecture is based on is proliferation and spiral development,“ Derek Tournear, director of SDA and a 2021 Wash100 Award winner, said Tuesday at a Space Foundation event.
