Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt said the U.S. government and the technology industry must develop new approaches for artificial intelligence (AI), microelectronics and other critical military innovations to maintain technology advantage over China, C4ISRNET reported Friday. Speaking at the National Defense Industrial Association's National Security Artificial Intelligence Conference, Schmidt noted that China has been investing in emerging technology and that the U.S. needs to take a more assertive role in tech development.
Steve Escaravage, a senior vice president and head of the analytics practice and artificial intelligence services business at Booz Allen Hamilton, said the U.S. has experienced leadership in other technology areas but could lose its edge in AI if it fails to take action in response to the call made in the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence's final report, Nextgov reported Tuesday. Escaravage also highlighted the need for an “intense focus on an ethical approach“ when it comes to AI.
