C3.ai has added Shell to the consortium of universities, national laboratories and companies that make up its Digital Transformation Institute. Detlef Hohl, chief scienctist for computation and data science at Shell, will represent the company in the consortium. “Shell has established clear leadership in new energy, having laid out its “˜Powering Progress' commitment to accelerate the transition of Shell's businesses to net zero emissions,“ said Tom Siebel, C3.ai founder and CEO.

Raytheon Engages With Academia for Military AI Development

Raytheon Technologies' intelligence and space business will award a combined amount of $400,000 to academic partners for artificial intelligence development initiatives that will focus on augmenting military defense systems and continue through 2022. Southern Methodist University and Virginia Tech will receive $175,000 and $225,000, respectively, to develop AI and machine learning technologies applicable to military operations, Raytheon said Tuesday.

AECOM Partnership to Monitor COVID-19 RNA in Wastewater; Lara Poloni Quoted

AECOM has partnered with Bergen County Utilities Authority (BCUA) and Columbia University to monitor COVID-19 ribonucleic acid (RNA) in wastewater, which can be a leading indicator of infection rates, in the BCUA sewer shed. The team has collected, tested and analyzed more than 650 samples, with results indicating that wastewater monitoring statistically provides a seven- to ten-day leading indicator of reported COVID-19 cases.
