CBP Orders Two Multi-Role Enforcement Aircraft From SNC

Sierra Nevada Corp. has secured a $48.3 million contract to provide two more sensors-equipped aircraft that would help U.S. Customs and Border Protection detect and track border security threats. The pair of Multi-Role Enforcement Aircraft will support CBP's surveillance across border areas that pose environmental challenges, such as austere weather and terrain obstacles, SNC said Tuesday.

Air Force Research Satellite Conducts VLF Transmission in Space

The Demonstration and Science Experiments satellite of the Air Force Research Laboratory performed the first space-to-space very low frequency transmission within three months of its launch during a coordinated experiment with the Japanese Space Agency's Arase spacecraft. The DSX satellite launched in June 2019 to study the interactions of space plasma, radiation belts and radio waves in near-Earth space.

Sierra Nevada Gets DIU Contract to Design Autonomous Space Outpost

The Defense Innovation Unit has awarded Sierra Nevada Corp. a contract to create an unmanned orbital outpost prototype based on the company's space transport vehicle design. SNC said Tuesday it will repurpose the 16-foot Shooting Star hardware that was originally designed to function as a Dream Chaser spaceplane attachment under NASA's Commercial Resupply Services 2 program.

General Atomics Demos Potential of Extended-Range Gray Eagle UAS for Multidomain Ops

General Atomics' aeronautical systems unit has conducted a third demonstration of how the extended-range Gray Eagle unmanned aircraft system could support the U.S. Army in multidomain operations. The company said Monday it used intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance payloads, long-range sensors, command and control systems and air-launched effects from industry partners during monthlong demo event.
