Army Orders $71M in Additional Raytheon Excalibur Projectiles - top government contractors - best government contracting eventRaytheon has received a $70.7 million order to manufacture additional satellite-guided heavy artillery shells for the U.S. Army, Military & Aerospace Electronics reported Friday.

The order is for the production of M982 Excalibur 155-millimeter Increment Ib projectiles under option six of a previously awarded contract from the Army Contracting Command.

Raytheon’s missile systems business will perform work through January 2020 at locations within the U.S. as well as in England, Scotland and Sweden.

Excalibur rounds are equipped with a ruggedized global positioning system navigation receiver that work to detect and hit moving targets in urban or complex terrain from a distance of up to 25 miles.

The weapon is designed to operate with various howitzers such as M777, M109, M198, Archer, PzH2000, AS90, K9 and G6 systems.
