Industry leaders said they believe the deadlines set in a draft action plan for the Federal Data Strategy are achievable, FedScoop reported Friday.

The draft plan released in early June consists of 16 steps that were categorized into shared, community and agency-specific actions needed to implement the strategy, which aims to use data as a strategic asset.

“It is aggressive, but it needs to be,” John DeSimone, vice president of cybersecurity and special missions at Raytheon’s intelligence, information and services business, said of the action plan.

“We need to address this challenge head-on and aggressively if we are going to see real change that positively impacts our system availability levels,” DeSimone added.

Vishal Kapur, a principal at Deloitte, said he thinks critical to meeting the goals in the draft plan would be collaboration between federal agencies on some of the measures.
