The U.S. Navy has indicated its intent to award Boeing a five-year, $527 million contract to update training systems for Super Hornet and Growler aircraft operators and maintenance crew.
A notice posted Monday on SAM.gov says the military service is looking to incorporate modern technology into the F/A-18E/F fighter and EA-18G airborne electronic attack aircraft.
The branch determined that Boeing has the ability to produce and modernize the trainers concurrently with modification work on both platforms because it is the only company with access to design data, software and simulation models required in the aircraft development process.
Boeing also has a supplier base and the processes necessary to manage, engineer and manufacture systems for the F/A-18E/F and EA-18G programs, the service added.
The planned contract will have an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity structure and will include software configuration set upgrades, courseware and discrepancy report efforts, according to the notice.
